Prologue

The project was almost finished, and today project Kinetic Robotic Operating Warrior would finally be tested for the first time. As I looked up into the half robot, half angelic being, it almost looked human, though the white angelic wings brilliantly fluttering through the liquid oxygen tank proved it otherwise. I gave a sigh, and then pulled out my precious photo of my beloved family, and as my index finger traced over every figure in the picture, I could feel a smile curve up on my face for the first time in three years.

“Finally, I’ll be able to see her again.”

I said as I looked at the little girl sitting on her father’s lap.

“ I’ll finally be able to see my little girl again, and the home that this blasted project has taken me away from for so long.”

Since I was in deep thought, it was no wonder the tap on my shoulder made me jump from surprise, but when I saw who it was, I relaxed quickly.

“Silvia, I’m sorry dear, what is it?”

“Oh, nothing, I’m just absolutely excited to return home tomorrow, and see our daughter for the first time in years. I wonder how much she’s grown? I feel like I’ve missed so much of her life, and I need to make it up to her somehow.”

She then took out her handkerchief and wiped a tear from her eye.

“ I’ve missed her.”

“ Me too. As soon as I see her, I’m gonna hug her to death, then kill her for the letter I got about her blowing up the family dojo. She is so…”

“Much like you,” she giggles, and I say.

“I’m not like that…”

“You’re right… you’re worse!” She laughs.

As I was glaring at my wife, an assistant professor informed us two professors that the project was ready to initiate, and that the whole staff was waiting. As we walked into the auditorium, Professor Lamel, the backbone of this project, got up and smiled at the waiting crowd.

“Today we have done the impossible! We have mixed the angelic powers of god with machine, and I would like to thank you all. For without you this would not have been possible. But in particular, I would like to acknowledge Silvia Demona and her husband, for being my right hand professors for these past three years, and I believe we owe these two people our greatest thanks.” The crowd applauses.

“ No sir, we should be thanking you for giving us the opportunity to show the world our greatest skills, and with out you, this project wouldn’t have even gotten off its feet.” I said proudly.

“ Well I can’t argue with that now, can I?” He chuckles. “Even though we shall all miss working on this great project, I’m sure the world will be a better place as soon as these angelic armies are here to serve our country. We will finally be the most peaceful place in the galaxy at last!” “And now, with that said, let the project initiate!” The crowd applauses.

Every single switch was then turned on, and the tank started to glow. As everyone waited in anticipation, the left hand of the angelic droid twitched, and almost everyone was holding his or her breath to see if it would move again. Then the eyes started to open, and everyone in the room burst into cheer. The project was a success! Or so we thought. As I was smiling whole heartily, I noticed a little red flashing light and looked down at the heart rate reading. The beating of its heart was gaining speed.

“This can’t be right, what in the world…” Before I could finish my thought, the emergency red lights started to go off, and panic spread through out the room. “Warning, computer system overload, warning computer system overload.” I heard the warning system say.

Then, one of the women scientists screamed and pointed at the tank, and what I saw almost made me want to scream too. The white pure wings had turned a midnight black, the once blue eyes had turned blood red, and the creature that we created had a look of death spread across its face. The glass to the tank shattered and everyone in the room was terrified, trying to get out through the nearest exit. But when a voice that was most horrifying came from the creature, it stopped most people in their tracks.

“ You mortals! How dare you try and mingle with the powers of god? This deed you have all done is of the utmost sin, and will not go unheard of in the house of god. Be warned humans, for if this attempt is to ever happen again, forever your world will suffer war and pain, and all who inhabit it will know true suffering!”

With that, the creature started to glow again, but this time it was different. The earth started to shake, and I knew what was going to happen: it was going to blow.

“ Everyone, get out, this place is going to explode in a matter of minutes, run!” When Silvia and I got everyone safely out of the room, we both looked back and saw Professor Lamel still standing there, staring at the glowing creature.

“Professor, come on, get out! This place is going to explode! You’ll die if you stay in here, move!”

“ No! I worked too hard on this project, I won’t ever give it up!”

“Professor, don’t be damn fool! Your life is more important than this project! Come on, let’s go! You have a future waiting for you outside of this lab. You must leave!”

“I won’t ever leave my project behind!”

“Professor, don’t…”

There was a moment of pause, and before I could grab her, Silvia leaped into the room trying to grab Professor Lamel. When I was going to go in after her, a big piece of the ceiling fell right before me, and the two people I cared about most were trapped behind the great wall of rocks.

“Silvia! Professor Lamel! Silvia!!!!!”

The ceiling started to crack even more, and I had no choice but to leave them behind, and run for my life. There was a big bang as I came running out through the doors, and when the dust and smoke finally cleared, our once precious laboratory had been turned into nothing but rubble. I ran to the site I had last seen Silvia and Professor Lamel, and searched desperately, hoping to find my wife and best friend alive, but the only thing I found was a lone handkerchief that once belonged to my beloved Silvia.
